Spring Valley Church is a Christ-centered, family church. We believe that the value of people is enhanced through relationships. First, in a relationship with Jesus and second, through authentic relationships with one another. Spring Valley offers a "come-as-you-are" environment where both of these can be cultivated. Spring Valley is a place to belong, grow, and serve. We offer Bible studies, family life programs, engaging children’s programs, fellowship opportunities, and weekend worship gatherings
WHO WE ARE
We believe that the best way to fulfill our vision and mission of seeing our communities saturated with the glory of God is through making disciples in the everyday stuff of life. This is accomplished in what we call our G4 - Gather, Go, Give, and Grow.
HOW WE GATHER
1. Jesus is the center. (Jesus matters.)
Jesus is the hero of our story and the highest authority over our church. Our gatherings focus on Jesus. He is the means by which all things are redeemed. Everything we do is ultimately about Him. LUKE 24:27, HEBREWS 12:1-2, COLOSSIANS 1:18-20, COLOSSIANS 3:17
2. Prayer empowers everything that matters. (Prayer matters.)
We watch for and ask the Holy Spirit to be involved in the mundane and the major aspects of everyday life. We don’t just promise to pray for others, we stop and pray. The Holy Spirit, through prayer, leads our plans, not the other way around. PHILIPPIANS 4:6, JOHN 16:13, 1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-19
3. We enjoy and submit to God’s word. (God’s word matters.)
God’s word is powerful, beautiful, and essential. The believer needs the word in their everyday discipleship. We call people to experience the joys of obeying God’s commands. We train our members in seeing the overarching narratives and themes of the Bible. We hear the word, pray the word, and sing the word. ACTS 6:4, HEBREWS 4:12; 2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
4. Sunday shapes our everyday. (Sundays matter.)
Sunday is only a part of our everyday life of faith. How we gather teaches us how to live when we scatter. We follow the gospel storyline of (1)creation, (2)fall, (3)redemption, and (4)restoration in our liturgy (worship) every Sunday. HEBREWS 10:24-25, COLOSSIANS 3:16, 1 CORINTHIANS 14:26
HOW WE RELATE TO OTHERS
5. Real community is essential, beautiful, and requires hard work. (Community matters.)
A flourishing Christian has a vibrant relationship with God, self, believers, and outsiders. We keep short accounts and talk to people, not about them. We strive for peace and press in when things are hard. ACTS 2:42-47, ROMANS 12:9-13, GALATIANS 6:2
6. We respond to Christ’s incredible gift in caring for one another. (Service matters.)
Following the example of Jesus, we believe that saved people serve people. Christ was the ultimate witness of servanthood and embodied caring for others by putting them first. We do this through serving on Sundays, Outreach opportunities, and by following the leading of the Holy Spirt daily. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1-31, 1 PETER 4:8-11
7. We are eager to see all people know the love of God. (Evangelism matter.)
We ourselves have been adopted into God’s family, and now we all play a role in others experiencing God’s love and forgiveness. Theology is inherently evangelical, and evangelism is always theological. Personal relationships connect people to Jesus. Our everyday lives are our mission field. 1 PETER 3:15, LUKE 19:10, ROMANS 10:17, LUKE 15
8. We are better together. (Unity matters.)
There is one Church, under one Lord, called to one mission together. We value diverse and intergenerational discipleship. We embrace those with different gifts, color, age, economic status, and experiences. We integrate, not assimilate. We strive for gift-based, shared leadership, that is submitted to one another. HOW WE LIVE
9. We are contributors, not consumers. (Ownership matters.)
We equip members of all ages to make disciples in the everyday stuff of life. The Church is not a provider of services but a training ground for servants. Every member is a minister, every staff person and elder is an equipper. We give what we have and work towards solutions. We participate in spiritual disciplines and take responsibility for our own discipleship. ROMANS 12:6, COLOSSIANS 3:23-24, EPHESIANS 4:11-12
10. God loves us too much to leave us where we are. (Transformation matters.)
We believe that God has a purpose and calling for each of our lives. This purpose is discovered through the laying down of our own agendas, plans and desires. Then through God’s sanctifying power, we are created new for His purpose and calling. EZEKIEL 36:26, JEREMIAH 29:11-12, 2 TIMOTHY 1:9
11. We have the courage to create. (Creativity matters.)
We are all made in the image of a creative God. We explore fresh ways to talk about and respond to the unchanging Gospel. We try new things. Innovation is beneficial to our mission and our own discipleship. Art powerfully inspires our faith and articulates our struggles. Creativity is an important part of the church. 12. We don’t take God’s grace for granted. (Gratitude matters.)
We frequently remember and celebrate what God has done. Gratitude is our starting point. God’s people throw great parties. God’s faithfulness in the past gives us the courage to ask for big things in the future. 1 THESSALONIANS 5:18, EPHESIANS 5:20, PSALM 95:2; PSALM 105:5
